About these Games Rules
These are the Game Rules for “Q Live” – the game that stops the nation! Q Live is a series of shows streamed live daily at set times. Each Q Live show (a “Show”) consists of a 12 question trivia game (a “Game”).
You can play as many Games as you want, or just watch Shows. There are prizes for each Game, but you can also accumulate leaderboard points. The Q Live weekly leaderboard (the “Leaderboard”) will give you great bragging rights. We may also award prizes or other benefits to the weekly Leaderboard leader. The more Games you play, the better your chances at climbing the Leaderboard.
We may introduce additional features for some or all Games. For example spot prizes for specific questions.
The Shows are streamed live via the Q Live mobile application (the “App”) which is made available by News UK & Ireland Limited, a company registered in England with Company No 01893198 whose registered address 1 London Bridge Street, London, SE1 9GF (“NewsUK”, “us”, “we” or “our”). You must download the App and register an account (an “Account”) to watch and play the Games. You may only have one registered Account at any one time.
Eligibility to play
Each Game is open to residents of the United Kingdom, the Channel Isles, the Isle of Man and the Republic of Ireland who are aged 18 or over.
We reserve the right to ask you to provide satisfactory evidence to prove that you meet these eligibility criteria.
To claim any cash prize you win you will need a valid PayPal account. Prizes must be claimed within 90 days of winning (see further below).
You may only enter each Game once (but you may enter as many Games as you wish). You may not enter a Game on multiple devices or otherwise attempt to participate in a Game more than once, for example by registering multiple Accounts.
When to play
Shows will be streamed at the dates and times which are announced via the App. Unless you disable them, push notifications will be sent to the device(s) on which you have downloaded the App (your “Device(s)”) to alert you of when a Show is going to begin.
How to play
To enter a Game you must be watching the relevant Show and answer the first question via your Device. Each Game will consist of a series of multiple choice questions which you must answer using your Device within the given time.
The standard Game rules are that, if you fail to answer a question at all, or in the given time, or if you give a wrong answer, you will be eliminated from the Game and will not be eligible for the cash prize for that Game. However, if you have an “Extra Life” available and redeem this before the next question, you will not be eliminated on that question.
“Extra Lives” are awarded in return for encouraging new players to register for the App and play Games. Give friends and family your referral code (which is your username) and you’ll get an Extra Life for each new player who enters your referral code when they register. We may decide to award Extra Lives in other situations too. These will be explained in the App or a particular Show. Extra Lives can only be redeemed on the first 9 questions in any Game and you can only use one Extra Life per Game. Each Extra Life can only be used once. There is no expiry date on an Extra Life.
We may apply special rules to specific Games, such as allowing one wrong answer per person, or providing that to win you must participate in more than one Game. Special rules of this nature will be communicated via the App in advance of the relevant Show(s).
We may also introduce additional prizes, for example spot prizes for a specific question. The rules relating to these additional prizes will be communicated via the App or during a Show in advance of the relevant Game(s) and/or question. Any additional prizes may become a regular feature of all Games, or may just be a one-off special prize. If a prize has been awarded in one or more Games, this does not mean it will necessarily be awarded in subsequent Games.
What happens once you’re eliminated
Once eliminated from a Game you may continue watching the Game and answering questions. You will not be eligible for the prize for that Game, but you will be awarded Leaderboard points for answering questions correctly. If you start watching a Game part way through, you will be able to answer questions and earn Leaderboard points but you will not be eligible for the main prize.
Whether you have been eliminated or have started watching a Game part way though, you may also (depending on the rules for the particular additional prize) be eligible to take part in and win any additional prizes available in that Game.
Leaderboard points and prizes
Leaderboard points are awarded for each question answered correctly on the basis of one point per correct question answered.
The Leaderboard is reset every week at or around 9am on a Monday morning. Any prizes for Leaderboard leaders will be announced via the App and/or Shows. Leaderboard winners will be announced via the App and/or a Show. If you have won a Leaderboard prize we will credit your Balance (see below re how to claim your Balance) or we will contact you via the contact details you have provided to us so that we can arrange payment or delivery of your prize.
How to win a Game and Game prizes
Unless special rules apply, to win a Game you must get to the end of all 12 questions without being eliminated. There may be no winners or multiple winners of each Game. The main prize for each Game will normally be cash, in which case the winners of the Game will share the cash prize equally. If the main prize is not cash, we will explain prior to the Game how the main prize(s) will be won and/or allocated between winners. You only have one chance of winning the main prize per Game. If there are no winners the prize will normally roll over to the next Game.
The main prize for each Game will be announced in advance of each Game and will be shown in the schedule of upcoming Shows available in the App.
All prizes are non-transferable. Non-cash prizes are non-refundable and no cash alternative will be available.
If you win a non-cash prize you may need to provide us with an address for delivery. This address must be in the United Kingdom, the Channel Isles, the Isle of Man or the Republic of Ireland. We will explain how you should provide us with your address for delivery via the App and/or during the relevant Show(s). We may place a time limit during which you must provide us with the delivery address. If you do not provide us with an eligible address within that time limit we reserve the right to withdraw the prize or award it to someone else, and you will no longer be entitled to the prize.
If we consider it appropriate, the prizes offered might be varied or swapped by us for a suitable alternative in our discretion.
Third party terms and conditions may apply to some non-cash prizes where applicable.
We will not be liable for any act or default of any third party supplier of non-cash prizes, nor for any problems with the dispatch or delivery of non-cash prizes (such as prizes failing to reach the intended recipient).
If you believe you have won a cash prize and your Balance has not been credited or you have not heard from us within 10 days of the relevant announcement, please email us at QLIVE@news.co.ukPlease also email us at that address if you’ve won a non-cash prize and have not received this within 30 days of providing us with a delivery address.
Reliance on technology
Q Live (including the Shows and Games) is reliant on technology. If your technology fails meaning you cannot watch, play or participate in a Game or any part of a Game, or if your answers are not submitted in time, unfortunately you will not be able to participate in the Game and/or you will be eliminated from that Game.
If the technology which we rely on fails we may, in our absolute discretion and without warning, pause or re-start a Game, repeat questions, adapt the Game, adjust the rules for the Game (and if relevant, the rules of related Games or the Leaderboard), or if necessary, cancel a Game altogether.
Claiming cash prizes
If you have won a Game a notification will appear in the App after the last question. It will also tell you how many winners there were and the amount of your share in the cash prize that you have won. Your winnings will then show in your prize money balance (your “Balance”) in the App. You must claim any prize money you have won by using the “cash out” function (see below) within 90 days of the date you won it. Any prize money not claimed within 90 days of the date it was won will be forfeited: your Balance will be reduced by the amount you won and you will lose the chance of claiming that prize money.
By using the App you will be able to access your Account at any time and see your Balance.
To claim your Balance tap on your Balance at any time and you’ll be taken to a “cash out” page. You will be asked to enter an email address and press “cash out”. If you have given us an email address when you registered we may pre-populate the email address field with the email address you have given us. You can change the email address you use to cash out by entering an alternative email address. Note this will not change the email address linked to your account which we will retain as your main contact address. Once you’ve pressed cash out, then:
- If you’ve submitted an email address linked to a PayPal account, your Balance will be paid into that PayPal account. We will endeavour to ensure this payment is made within 7 days but it may take up to 10 days from the date you cash out.
- If you’ve submitted an email address which is not linked to a PayPal account, PayPal will send an email to that email address. We will endeavour to ensure that email is sent within 7 days but it may take up to 10 days from the date you cash out. The email from PayPal will explain that a PayPal account must be set up to receive payment. Follow the instructions in the email and payment will be made once the PayPal account is opened. A PayPal account must be opened within 30 days of receiving the email from PayPal otherwise the prize money will be returned to us, it will be forfeited and you will lose the chance to receive that prize money.
- • If your Balance is over £500 we may, at our discretion, email you directly via the email provided when you registered your account and/or the email address you entered at the cash out stage and arrange for payment via a different method, rather than using PayPal. This may include a direct bank transfer. In this case will always endeavour to send the email within 7 days of you cashing out however it may take up to 10 days. If you have not heard from us within 10 days, please contact us via QLIVE@news.co.uk.
Make sure the email address you enter is correct!
We are not responsible for paying the wrong person if you give us the wrong email address. However, if you realise you have entered the wrong email address, email us as soon as possible via QLIVE@news.co.uk. If we have not yet triggered the payment we may be able to correct this, but we cannot guarantee this.
We will not be liable to you if we pay your Balance to someone else if you gave us the wrong email address in error, or if someone gains access to your Device and cashes out your Balance to themselves or someone else.
You can only cash out the whole of your Balance at one time. You cannot cash out part of your Balance or split it between different PayPal accounts.
Please note that your Balance will only be reduced once we have successfully made the payment of it. If you win again after cashing out but before payment is made, your Balance may show a greater sum than you have available to cash out.
If you cancel your Account you will be deemed to have forfeited any cash in your Balance and will have no claim against us for it.
All Balances will be paid out by us in pound sterling. If the account to which payment is requested is in any currency other than pound sterling you will bear the costs of any currency conversion fee applied by PayPal or your bank, and we shall have no responsibility for that amount. PayPal’s terms and conditions will apply to PayPay transactions. These can be found via the PayPal website at www.paypal.com. We will not be responsible for the exchange rate which is applied when payment is made nor for any fluctuation in exchange rates which may mean a lower sum than you expected is received.
Responsibility for your Account
The registered user of an Account is responsible for ensuring that only they use the App linked to their Account, that only they enter a Game through their Account, and that only they claim any prize they win.
If a Game is entered and/or played by someone other than the registered user of the Account that person may make no claim against us for any cash prizes, Leaderboard points or on any other basis. We will not engage in any dispute between a registered user and anyone who entered a Game using their Account.
We may make announcements about participants in a Game, for example by indicating that they are participating, have correctly (or not) answered a question, or that they have won a Game. Usernames will usually be used for this purpose but we may also indicate your location, gender and age if this information has been provided by you during the registration process or otherwise.
We may also offer an interactive request service allowing participants to request announcements be made about them to be broadcast during a Game. We will facilitate this through our Q Live social media channels. If you use this service you must only provide personal information about yourself.
We will make usernames of all winners of each Game available via the App. The username of all winners will also be made available to anyone who requests them - just email QLIVE@news.co.uk up to 4 weeks from the date of the relevant Game.
We reserve the right to withdraw or amend any Game (including part way through a Game).
We reserve the right to withdraw or amend these Game Rules if we consider it necessary or appropriate to do so, or for unforeseen reasons beyond our reasonable control.
NewsUK will not be liable for any action it takes based on a reasonable assumption that you are ineligible or in breach of the Game Rules. If you believe we have made a wrong assumption, please email us at QLIVE@news.co.uk
In the event of any dispute our decisions are final.
This App and the Games are in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with Facebook. Any questions, comments or complaints regarding the App or Games must be directed to NewsUK only, and NOT Facebook.
The ‘promoter’ of each Game is NewsUK.
NewsUK employees (and employees of its agencies or any associated companies) who have been involved in the production, development or creation of the App or any Game, or who by virtue of their position may have access to any confidential information about the App or Games, and anyone else professionally involved with the Games or App, and all such people’s immediate family members or households members (whether related or not), are excluded from entering Games and from winning any prizes.
